The Cape Cod Baseball League traces its roots back to 1885, when local town teams across Cape Cod began competing against one another during the summer months. The modern league officially formed in 1923 and has since grown into the country’s premier collegiate summer baseball league. Known for its use of wooden bats and elite level of competition, the Cape League attracts many of the top college baseball players in the nation each summer.
More than 1,600 former players have gone on to play in Major League Baseball, including Hall of Famers, MVPs, Cy Young winners, and World Series champions. Today, the league includes ten teams representing Cape Cod communities, preserving a classic New England baseball tradition while serving as one of the most respected pipelines to professional baseball.
